Recruited to the Bayer Leverkusen Academy at 15, Devala Gorrick went on to a 10-year professional career: 450+ appearances across 6 countries, first-choice keeper from Puerto Rico to the Thai Premier League (back-to-back All-Star, 2012–13), IK Frej in Sweden, Ottawa Fury, and Saint Louis FC — captaining clubs in three nations, a 2016 USL Goalkeeper of the Year nominee, and a 2009 US Men's National Team camp call-up. Today he leads Golden Glove GK, putting all of it into the next generation.
Years after my pro career ended, I put the gloves back on and represented the USA at a World Cup.
Standing for the anthem with that crest on my chest - after the benches, the releases, the countries and the comebacks - is a moment I will never forget.
It is also the best thing I can tell any goalkeeper I coach: it is not over until you decide it is.
